What is a web inspection system in printing?
A web inspection system — also called a video web inspection system or inline print inspection system — is a real-time camera-based machine vision platform mounted on a printing press. It continuously monitors the moving web, automatically detecting print defects such as colour shifts, misregistration, streaks and missing print at full production speed, without stopping the press.
What is the difference between a narrow web and wide web inspection system?
A narrow web print inspection system is designed for presses with web widths typically under 500 mm — label presses, tag presses and narrow web flexo rotary machines. Wide web inspection systems cover web widths from 500 mm to over 2,000 mm for flexible packaging, corrugated, gravure and wide-format flexo lines. SICHANGO offers both narrow web (Scout 3) and wide web (Observer 4000, Overseer 200) configurations, all factory-fitted to your exact web width.
What printing processes does a SICHANGO web inspection system support?

What print defects can the system detect?
Colour deviation (Delta-E), registration error (X/Y), missing print, streaks and scratches, ink smear, and back-side contamination (Overseer 200 dual configuration). The system monitors individual CMYK channels independently, enabling early detection of ink density drift before it exceeds customer specification.
How fast can the system detect a defect?
Defect alerts fire in under 10 milliseconds. At 300 m/min the alarm triggers within less than 5 cm of the defect — giving the operator time to intervene. At 600 m/min, defect location accuracy is maintained via precision encoder integration.
How does AutoScan work?
AutoScan performs a full-width sweep of the print plate at job start, automatically capturing a golden reference image across both the cross-web (X) and web-travel (Y) directions. This eliminates manual camera setup for each job. On the Overseer 200, AutoScan covers full X and Y axes simultaneously from the first repeat.
How long does installation take?
Approximately 2 hours for a standard single-press installation. The mounting kit is factory-prepared to your press specifications before shipment. Remote commissioning support is provided via video call. On-site engineers available for complex projects.
What is the difference between inline and offline print inspection?
Inline (on-press) inspection monitors the web in real time as it is printed — catching defects at the source before they compound into waste. Offline inspection takes place on a separate rewinder after printing, for post-process verification. SICHANGO provides solutions for both inline web inspection and offline rewinder inspection.
